Customer Relations Manager / Site Manager With all of the newer technologies out there PHP is finally becoming a major player in the web community. There are tons of projects that could be started but "all the buzz" is about Site Managers, Customer Relationship Managers, Content Management Systems, Blogs and you can fill in the rest of the blanks... but what about a project that encompasses all of the above systems? I know that there is plenty of talent, GPL can protect it, I would imagine that every member of this group has a server or access to one. If we build it they will come....
I am just going to post this much. If there is interest is such a project, please post ideas. If there is a big interest in this project, we need to start figuring out some coding standards and general rules. I can host it if nobody else wants to. |

Re: Customer Relations Manager / Site Manager You want to build a system that does it all? I don't know about that. Microsoft tried to do it once... How about building a framework that all the proprietary systems could be plugged into. Now that would be cool. I'm guessing database views and tons of module abstractions will have to be used.

Re: Customer Relations Manager / Site Manager Ok, so maybe the entire system is a little ambitious, for now. I agree that a robust framework would be the best place to start. I have problems with plugins, and proprietary software. Microsoft rubbed me the wrong way many years ago. So would we like to start the framework from scratch or use one like ZNF, sugarCRM, Joomla!, eGroupware, etc ?
I am up for either, but it is much easier to stand on the shoulders of giants. Using another groups' framework will be quicker and easier. Please let me know your thoughts. Links to above mentioned: http://znf.zeronotice.com/ http://sugarCRM.com/ http://joomla.org/ http://egroupware.org/ |

Re: Customer Relations Manager / Site Manager I'm completely new here as I just ran across kcpug today and intend on going to my first meeting tomorrow so excuse me if this is an overly silly comment but wouldn't it be intelligent to start with a handful of small projects (simple ones like SNIF*) and get the framework up for many users to work cooperatively on them?
Setup the Groupware and grow. Throw some guidelines out there & let everyone know how to get connected & contribute. I also think it'd be cool if we could all share a project or two of our own. I know we all have scripts and small projects we built to serve a simple purpose that is just "doing it's job" and not getting any more attention. In my opinion, it's much more productive to start with a lot of small group projects that have been fine tuned to perfection then supporting just one large (possibly boring) project. All it would really take is for someone to setup Subversion (or CVS) and a mailing list (or software that creates a mailing list for each code repository) To sum up, I think it would be better to setup an open project system we can all submit projects to and work cooperatively on. It would let us get started. What are the odds someone is going to get this rolling any other way? Anywho, Hi, I'm new here. *SNIF - Simple & Nice Index File http://www.bitfolge.de/snif-en.html |

Re: Customer Relations Manager / Site Manager Ok, so small projects that lead to greater projects, huge ambitions, lets of help.... Let's kick the tires and light the fires!! Where do we want to start. I have the server space and all the PHP extensions built in that we could want. Let's pick a model framework. I like Zend framework, any suggestions? Let me get a few things sorted on the server. What collaboration software do we want? The domain that I have is coresynapse.com. We could host it there or if someone else has a better suggestion, I am all for it.
Lemme know what we are doing. I am ready to get things goin'. |
